Migration

GetVetWise: Veterinary Telehealth System

A veterinary telehealth platform migrated from monolithic legacy infrastructure to a containerized cloud system.

Industry:Veterinary Telehealth
Our Role:Backend Specialist / DevOps Engineer

Project Overview

GetVetWise ran on monolithic legacy infrastructure that was slow to deploy and awkward to scale. The system was re-architected into AWS ECS clusters behind an Application Load Balancer, with a unified GraphQL layer giving mobile and web clients flexible access to the same data. GitHub Actions CI/CD with automated Docker builds brought deployments down to zero downtime.

Quick Facts

Technologies
AWS ECSDockerGraphQLAWS EC2

Legacy monolith on bare servers

The platform's infrastructure made scaling and deployment risky, while mobile and web clients needed differently shaped data from the same backend.

Monolithic services running directly on bare servers
Deployments requiring downtime
Mobile and web clients needing flexible queries against one backend

Containerized ECS cluster with a unified GraphQL layer

Services were containerized and moved onto AWS ECS behind an Application Load Balancer, a GraphQL layer was introduced for client queries, and GitHub Actions automated Docker builds and releases.

Our Approach

Re-architected bare servers into AWS ECS clusters behind an ALB
Built a unified GraphQL layer for mobile and web queries
Set up GitHub Actions CI/CD with automated Docker builds and zero downtime
